Most gift guides are a list of everything in stock. This one is short on purpose. These are our gift ideas for photographers and travel creators, and every piece of gear below has been on a real destination shoot with us: through airports, at 5 a.m. on a beach, in the rain on a rooftop. If someone on your list shoots photos or video when they travel, these are the things they will actually use.
The small essential
Fast SD cards. We record every shot to two cards at once, because footage you can't reshoot deserves a backup. Ours are Sony TOUGH cards: a V90 for the main slot and a V60 for the backup. They're built rugged for sand and spray.

The solid upgrades
Spare batteries for the camera they already own. Time-lapses eat batteries, and spare lithium batteries have to fly in the cabin anyway. For a Sony a7 III shooter, that's the NP-FZ100.
A travel tripod that leaves the hotel. Ours is the NEEWER TP74. The test for a travel tripod is simple: will you take it out at 5:40 a.m.? This one is light enough that we do. The trade-off: it needs weight in the wind. On rooftops we hang the bag from the hook.
A camera cube. The Peak Design Camera Cube V2 (Small) turns any bag into a camera bag. We carry ours inside a tote so the camera kit never looks like a camera kit.

The splurges
GoPro HERO13 Black. The camera that goes where the big camera can't: in the water, on a boat rail, in the rain. It's also our second angle on every shoot.
Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 for Sony E-mount. Our skyline and hotel-interior lens. Wide enough for rooms you can't back out of, fast enough for blue hour.

For content creators and YouTubers
If they film more than they photograph, three picks from this list matter most. The GoPro HERO13 Black is the second angle on every shoot we make and the camera that keeps rolling in water and rain. Fast cards matter more for video than for stills: a V90 card keeps up with high-bitrate footage without dropped frames. And the Peak Design Camera Cube turns the bag they already love into a camera bag, which matters when the kit moves from location to location every day.
For the traveler
Travel medical insurance. The one non-gear pick: if they shoot abroad, cover for the trip matters more than any accessory. SafetyWing's Nomad Insurance is built for people who travel for work, and it can be bought after the trip has already started.
What we'd skip
Cheap "travel" tripods. The bargain kind fail in wind, which is the exact condition every skyline shoot has.
Giant gear bundles. Most of what's in them stays in the box. One good thing beats ten okay things.
Quick answers
What is a good gift for a photographer who has everything?
Consumables and spares. Fast memory cards and a spare battery for the camera they already own get used on every shoot, and no photographer ever says they have too many.
What do travel creators actually need?
Gear that survives the trip: a tripod light enough to carry at sunrise, a second camera for wet or rough conditions, and a way to carry the kit without it looking like a camera bag.
What should you avoid buying?
Cheap tripods and big bundles. Both end up in a closet.
That's the list. It's short because we only recommend what we carry. If it changes, we'll update this post.
